BITE ME

If London is what you want, then London is what you'll get. Eary is what you can call the narrator of true street style fashion of the modern, contemporary days. But there's a difference. Because of her impeccable tailoring background, each item is bespoke and made by the designer herself; this is where her designs really excel.

Even though she specialises in menswear, this youthful designer has got me drooling all over her collections; the girls got talent. You see a lot of urban, street trends around these days, what with the flat peek hats, hoodies, trainers and so on, but I really think she has taken what people like and made it her own.
More recently I've been looking at fashion & film for one of my projects,
so I thought I'd just include this one to look at for the AW 10 collection

vanitas symbols

A couple of years ago I came across Ashkan Honarvar; a Netherlands based, Iran born artist, who produces some really interesting and visually appealing, yet sometimes questionable, mixed-media collages, combining illustration with photographic images (have a look at his work here). And a couple of days ago I came across some of his recent work which was published in  I Love You mag , which was an artistic collaboration with stylist Kathi Kauder and photographer Sabrina Theissen.
In the collage series, Ashkan Honarvar used Vanitas symbols "in a search for the equilibrium between life and death". The images are made up of different animal eyes, body parts and flowers; a very contrasting mix soft and harsh imagery to represent animal instincts.

we like girls

GIRLS

GIRLS.
Can't stop listening to this band since I've been introduced to them, and last night at Rescue Rooms here in Nottingham I was chuffed to see them play live. I can't justify in explaining just how good they were; definitely like them even more now.
The lead singer Christopher Owens just looked so cool; he's definately got that extra something about him. His style was amazing.

I wanna be in a their gang.

don't you know, ACNE is cool

I don't know what it is about Acne that I just love.
Even though it's not exactely what you would find me wearing, but everything from women's to men's, to the pre-collection; it never fails to disappoint.
The minimalistic, cool urban style really seems to be attractive, reflecting the modern day woman in a busy city.

The new S|S 12 collection saw the Acne girl a bit more relaxed and playful, with influences of Marrakesh being bought over to the Swedish fashion house. Candy hues such as light pinks, sky blues, mellow beiges and eye-popping oranges were mixed inbetween the classic uniform greys, blacks and whites. Though don’t be fooled; these minimalist colours were decorated with strips of metallic’s and contrasting leathers, as well as childlike (but very western) star shaped cut outs scattering around from the tops, to the skirts. The shapes of the clothing were not disappointing either. I love dip hems, and these seemed to be the shape of choice on this particular catwalk, adding some nicely different geometric lines through out the collection, complimenting what Acne does best; oversized, beautiful clothing.

 Daniel Silver's Work
So, I was more than impressed when Acne did a collaboration with London- based artist Daniel Silver to come up with a number of prints for Acne’s latest capsule collection. I respect designers who aren’t scared to collaborate with a brand/ company/ person beyond the obvious, and Acne have presented an amazing example of a fantastically done collection with artistic references. I love the lookbook for this collection as well, great lighting and layout; the contrasting background colours work a treat against the colourful clothing. The geometric shapes of the models clothes are being reflected nicely in her surrounding. The cropped images also work well in the series of photos, adding to the quirkiness of the whole collection.

this leather jacket is just AMAZING

futur-IS-tic

I think the way forward with contemporary clothing and dressing is the different man-made materials and textures which are constantly being developed and used in fashion. I also think the development of fabrics have influenced and reflected the designs of clothing, allowing designers and stylists to be more experimental, using future inspired colours, textures and fabrics. This isn't something I would wear but I love seeing these designs on other people and witness the influence of generation Z technology being reflected in such amazing clothing.

It feels like British designers such as Gareth Pugh and Alexander McQueen have really pushed the boundaries for these fresh, iconic looks and have used other developed asthetics such as technology, media, and theatrics to compliment and express their designs further to make it even more aesthetically and visually exciting. They have almost triggered an effect with other designers being more experimental and open minded in using slighlty more futuristic look fabrics and designs, leading to 3D constructions and a higher use of unconventional materials to create different dynamics. These type of designers are the ones who will truelly change the way we look at clothes and fashion in the future, and already reflect their personal outlook of the human form and characteristic by the way they present their collections.

the world is your OYSTER

I've just realised how long its been since I've been on my blog. TOO  long! I've been so busy with going into my second year at uni, moving house, catching up with friends, uni work and my job.
So anyways, I just wanted to share this with you.. I discovered Oyster magazine (an Australian fashion publication) about 2 years ago, and the magazine is doing a relaunch, with a new look and wider distribution (I've only seen it in a few places here in England). Its such a cool and quirky magazine; contemporary, youthful and eclectic. Its definitely worth checking out
The magazine had some really good graphic layouts; simple yet effective, I wonder how it'll be now..
